  1. Covenant of Shadow Hearts – This is the entry in the Shadow Hearts series that gained a serious following as one of the greatest RPG releases of this generation. Incorporating mythology, church lore, and demonology lore into the fantasy RPG genre. The story concerns a young woman trapped in tragedy in the 19th century.
  2. Disgaea – The best strategy RPG released on any console ever. Atlus released Disgaea, a game about the young prince of hell and his quest after being awake, which has grown into respectability associated with games like Square and Level 5. Playing this game for days on end is a guarantee, with more than 200 hours of gameplay. This game is also hilarious. The characters fit the game well.
  3. Three Suikodens – A cult series, the Suikoden series brings together heroic stories. There have been released every two years since this one, with the band slowly growing out of cult status. In Suikoden III, one of the best games in the series, a large cast of interconnected characters tells their stories to the audience.
  4. It takes the epic scope of past Final Fantasy games to a new level, reaching for the stars in the newest release, which was released just a few weeks before the PlayStation 3 was released. Characters play an important role in the action, and their stories are an essential addition to the game. This RPG had no fluff, and the redesign of the decades-old formula was for the better. And it contained no fluff, but it was an excellent improvement on the previous game and hopefully on the series as a whole.
  5. DARON QUEST VIII – Dragon Quest has always been huge in Japan, but only now did it find the same success here in the US. As Square Enix leaped full 3D glory with their series, Dragon Quest VIII is the result. The graphics are impressive, the characters are deeply engaging and hilarious, and the story is captivating. Not to mention, the battles are entertaining. You still catch monsters and have fun, too. It is a long game that you won’t get tired of.
